Installation is where most trouble with glass hardware shows up, so the information we send is meant to be read before the drill comes out. Every product ships with its own manual, and the fitting has to match the glass thickness it was ordered for. Below is what comes with the goods, what to confirm at 8, 10 and 12 mm, how to ask for a drawing, and the errors worth avoiding.
What ships with every product
Every product ships with an instruction manual covering the three things an installer needs:
- Installation instructions — the sequence for that fitting, including where the gasket and the fasteners sit.
- Drilling and hole details — the hole positions and sizes the model is machined for, so the glass is prepared to the fitting rather than the other way round.
- Product dimensions — the profile of the part and the fixing distances it needs.
An English electronic version of any manual is supplied on request. There is no public download area: files are issued per model and per order, and Compliance & documents sets out what we can prepare with an order.
Confirming the fitting against the glass thickness
Our hinges, clamps and rollers are made for 8 / 10 / 12 mm glass. A fitting is machined for one thickness and cannot be adapted afterwards, so settle the thickness before you order and check the parts against the glass before you drill. Four things are worth confirming on every job:
- the hinge or clamp is the version made for your glass thickness;
- the hole spacing and hole size match the drawing that came with that model;
- the gasket and the fastener set are the ones supplied with the fitting;
- wall-mounted parts have reinforcement behind the fixing points.
| Glass thickness | What the fitting must be | What to check on the glass and the wall |
|---|---|---|
| 8 mm | A hinge or clamp machined for 8 mm, with the gasket and fastener set supplied for that model. | Hole spacing and hole size against the model drawing; panel size and how the panel is held; reinforcement behind any wall-mounted fixing. |
| 10 mm | The 10 mm version of the same model — the 8 mm part is not a substitute. | Hole spacing and hole size against the drawing; the gasket that suits 10 mm glass; reinforcement for wall fixings and post-mounted clamps. |
| 12 mm | A hinge, clamp or roller suited to the heavier panel; ask us which model fits your panel and use. | Hole spacing and hole size against the drawing; the complete gasket and fastener set; the wall substrate checked before the panel is offered up. |
Rated figures differ by model and are confirmed for the model you order rather than published as one number for a line. Send the model code, the panel size and the glass thickness and we confirm the fitting and its rated use for the job.
Asking for a manual or a dimension drawing
Email the model code, or send a photograph of the part, and say which of the two you need. Three details get it answered faster: the order number if the order is placed, the glass thickness, and — if the glass has already been cut — the hole positions and the panel size. A photograph on its own does not fix the thickness or the fixing distance, so send the measurements with it. Technical requests are answered within 24 working hours.
Common installation errors
- Clamp screws over-tightened onto the glass. The screw holds the clamp against the gasket; it does not need to be crushed onto the glass.
- The wrong glass thickness for the fitting. A part machined for 8 mm will not seat correctly on 12 mm glass.
- Hole spacing that does not match the drawing. Positions change between models — work from the drawing that came with the model you ordered, not from the fitting that came off.
- Wall fixings into a hollow substrate without reinforcement. Check what is behind the wall before the panel is offered up.
- Hinges or rollers used above the door weight their model is rated for. Ask us for the rated figure for your model before you order.
Send the model code with your question and we come back with the drawing, the manual or an answer. The six product lines list the models and their sub-types; if the requirement is not settled yet, send it through request a quotation and we confirm the fitting, the thickness and the hardware set for the job.
